Prof. Adrian Melott and Dr. Drew Overholt, who received his PhD in May under the supervision of Dr. Melott, have examined the possibility that the Younger Dryas, a sudden cold period that befell Earth as it emerged from the last Ice Age between about 12,800 and 11,500 years ago, was triggered by a strike by a long-period comet.
