Physics and Astronomy Undergraduate Chosen for Prestigious Summer Research Program

Abishai Mathai, an undergraduate in the Physics and Astronomy department, was accepted to the Global Quantum Leap International Research Training Experience Program at the National Institute for Materials Science in Japan for summer 2025.
The Global Quantum Leap International Research Training Experience Program is a prestigious and competitive program that provides opportunities for undergraduate students to spend time in top laboratories around the world to participate in research on subjects related to quantum electronics. Abishai will spend the summer of 2025 working with Dr. Naoki Fukata on advanced thin film and nanostructures research, with applications to next generation electronics and solar power. Currently at KU, Abishai does research in the lab of Assistant Professor Dmitry Ovchinnikov.
