Pluto's Kansas Connection
Clyde Tombaugh was a Kansas farmboy who built his own telescopes to explore the night sky. His drawings of the objects he saw so impressed astronomers at Lowell observatory in Arizona that they gave him a job at the observatory, where he discovered Pluto in 1930. He then came back to Kansas and received his bachelors and masters degrees in Astronomy from KU.
